How concrete slab is calculated

Volume is deterministic geometry: length × width × thickness, converted to cubic yards. Waste covers spillage, uneven subgrade and the over-excavation every pour has, so the ordered figure is always the one to buy against.

Bag counts come from the yield printed on the product's own data sheet rather than a rounded rule of thumb, which is why the calculator names the product and the yield it used.

Questions

Should I order ready-mix or use bags?
Bags are practical for small pours; past roughly a cubic yard the mixing time and the number of bags stop being worth it. The calculator shows both so the crossover is visible rather than assumed.
How thick should a driveway slab be?
Thickness depends on the load and the subgrade, and it is a design decision rather than an arithmetic one. The reference check reports the minimum the selected standard states for slabs-on-grade; it does not tell you what your slab needs.
